What makes Trout Fishing in New Zealand special?
|
An average day to put a smile on most anglers' faces will see
2 - 3 nice sized trout landed (about 4 -5 lbs). We have our
awesome days where we land about 20 fish and they are marvellous.
Overall, most of our days are successful: 226 out of 230
last year.

Why New Zealand trout are special - excerpt from research by
New Zealand's National Institute of Water and Air (NIWA)
Current research suggests that the large size of New Zealand trout is
related to their life cycle and the clear water of our rivers. Large
New Zealand river brown trout (over 4.5 or 6 lbs) have probably spent
some time in the sea or lower reaches of rivers where food items are
large and water temperatures are not too cold. In clear waters large
trout can see food items more easily, so they can feed off a larger
dining table. Large insects, plentiful forage fish and sometimes
even mice also help trout grow to a large size. Large New Zealand trout
are also quite old (up to 15 years) and in clear water they are a challenge
to catch, making them a special prize and unique in the world.
New Zealand trout fishing is satisfying because of its challenging nature.
And that's its reputation worldwide - New Zealand trout fishing is
the ultimate challenge.
